Issue five features contributions from George Greenough, Mark Richards, Albe Falzon, Andrew Johns and Dave Rastovich. It has treehouses and farmhouses. It has ten dreams that came true. It has a camera waterhousing made from a saucepan. It has kneeboarding, the photography of Ray Collins, an essay on the vexed issue of dune management and it has x-rays of shells. And a fair bit more.
There are also two covers to choose from: An incredible black and white ‘art’ cover, or a stirring horses ‘surf’ cover
the art cover: Emotional response is a big criteria for a cover selection and we were stunned when we first saw this beautiful and moving image. Sincere thanks to photographers Erick and Ian Regnard, who have been brilliantly professional to collaborate with. The story of the shoot can be found about a dozen pages into this issue. To see more of their art, visit www.ianerickregnard.com. As a technical note, we cropped the original 4×5 image to fit the cover format.
the surf cover: We have Nathan Hedge to thank for this pic. Nathan’s story (part of the “This is a Call” feature) is one of the highlights of the issue, and our search for imagery of Hedgey led us to photographer Grant Ellis, who – along with his submission of shots of Nathan – attached a few other images, including this pic of Fergal Smith in Ireland. Grant works as photo editor for the esteemed Surfer Magazine in the US, and we’re stoked to have made his acquaintance.
